The Story of Stuff / Human Footprint

Watch the intro video the Story of Stuff Project. It is a brief but broadly insightful look into the materials economy - the process of resource acquisition to production, consumption, disposal, etc. It touches on a number of acute problems with our culture and its economy very well. Surf around on the site a little afterward to watch explanations of the processes behind specific products like bottled water and electronics.

Also, watch the National Geographic documentary Human Footprint. It traces the life of a statistically average American over the course of his/her life, showing the quantities of material goods like food, clothing, hygiene products, etc that they use, and the attendant waste products. This is a highly visual film and and I guarantee the images of the massive amounts of consumed and wasted materials will blow your mind.
